See the summer reading expectations for students entering grades 6 through 12.
Middle Schools
Edison Middle School students entering Grades 6–8 are encouraged to participate in the Summer Literacy Challenge by reading at least two books of their choice this summer.
There are no assignments or assessments, as the goal is to promote reading for enjoyment and continued learning through books and media.
Note: Students in Grade 8 Accelerated English are required to read The Outsiders and complete a separate assignment, and families with questions may contact Lisa Dunn, MS English Supervisor, at lisa.dunn@edison.k12.nj.us
High Schools
The program encourages reading for enjoyment while supporting the development of strong reading skills. Summer reading information and course-specific assignments are available for students entering grades 9–12.
REQUIRED:
Prior to the first day of school, Accelerated (Level 1) and Academic (Level 2) students are to select and read one short story, article, speech, or video from the list provided. While you are required to read only one short text and complete the assignment, it is highly recommended that you read one full-length book as well. In September, you will be expected to submit the assignment, which will count as your first homework grade in the first marking period. (Your teacher will provide you with the specific due date.)
Honors and AP students have specific readings and assignments. Please choose the hyperlink below that corresponds to the course you will be taking in September.
ALL students entering 12th grade must complete the College and Career assignment
