Edison Township Public Schools high school students are invited to participate in the USAII Global AI Hackathon, a virtual, student-friendly competition taking place in June that brings together 20,000+ students from around the world.
This is an exciting opportunity for students from Edison High School and J.P. Stevens High School to represent Edison Township on a global stage while building practical skills in artificial intelligence, teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving. The experience aligns well with Edison’s strong emphasis on STEM education, innovation, and real-world learning, including programs such as the STEM Academy, Biomedical Science Academy, robotics, and advanced coursework across disciplines.
No prior AI, coding, or computer science experience is required, and participation is completely free.
What to expect
Students will work in teams of 2–5 on real-world AI challenges that emphasize creativity, critical thinking, and positive impact. Teams may form with classmates at Edison or collaborate with students from other schools worldwide using platforms such as Devpost and Discord.
The experience includes:
A global virtual kickoff
A short preparatory task one week before the event
Two days to design and submit a project (June 20–21)
Online project submission and judging
A global awards and recognition ceremony
All participants receive a certificate of participation, and top teams earn additional recognition and certifications.
Who should participate
Students in grades 9–12 from all Edison programs and pathways are encouraged to join — not just those focused on STEM or computer science. Winning teams often include students with strengths in:
Technology and engineering
Science and biomedical studies
Product design and innovation
Business, marketing, and entrepreneurship
Writing, humanities, and social sciences
Students may join with an existing team or register individually and be matched with others.
