Elementary Updates and End of Year Procedures

As a result of the Governor’s announcement, we will be continuing our remote learning program until the end of the school year. We are committed to the success of our students, and consistency of learning and will continue to teach with fervor and purpose until our very last day in June. However, since the buildings will remain closed, we wanted to inform you of our closeout procedures for the remainder of the school year.

Between June 8-12, parents or guardians will be allowed to come to the school to pick up belongings and return all school items.  We are creating a schedule so that all guidelines for social distancing are met.  All parents and guardians must wear a mask when entering the building (bandanas and scarves covering the nose and mouth are permissible).  Procedures will be developed so that no one will come in direct contact with another person.  If belongings are not picked up during this time period, they will be put in the disposal for sanitary reasons.

Curriculum:

  • As communicated previously there will be no letter grades for MP4 or for the final grade of the year. On June 17 you will be able to access your child’s remote learning rubric through the parent portal. Please click here for directions on how to access the rubric.

  • The CogAT, our screening tool for G&T will be given to all students as they enter grade 3 and grade 5. Even if your child already took the assessment, we will be giving it again to all students in these grades. 

  • As is standard, we will not have school over the summer break, however your child will still have access to the following programs: Lexia: supports reading skills, Exact Path: adaptive math and reading, RAZ Kids: interactive reading. All platforms will be shut down after July 31 for system rollover. 

Technology:

  • Grades 2-5 --Your child’s district-issued device will be carried into the next grade so your child will keep the device over the summer.  Insurance is available (see below).

  • Kindergarten and Grade 1 --Your child’s district-issued device must be returned to the school after July 17. A schedule for drop off will be communicated closer to the time. Please include this form for iPads that are being returned. The form should be attached to the device when returned.

  • Current Kindergarten and Grade 1 students will receive a device in September, when school begins for the 2020-2021 school year. 

  • All students not returning to an Edison school in September must return the district-issued device to the school.

  • The help desk will be active over the summer to aid in any technology issues. Please use this email if you should need assistance: help.desk@edison.k12.nj.us

  • We recommend purchasing optional insurance for the device which will cover all repairs and replacements for the entire year (including this summer) July 1 2020 through June 30, 2021. For information on optional insurance, click here

 Personal belongings:

  • Between June 8-12, parents and guardians will be allowed to pick up their child’s personal belongings if they should wish to, according to a schedule communicated by the school’s Principal.  All items left behind will be placed in the garbage on June 15.

  • At this same time, yearbooks, if previously ordered, will also be available to be picked up. 

  • If your child has medication stored in the nurse's office you will also be able to collect it at that time. 

Items to be returned:

  • Any books sent home from school, including library books, should be returned.  Click here  for the form that must accompany all books. If you do not have access to a printer, please write the information on a piece of paper instead.  Books will be placed in designated areas.  This does not include workbooks in which students write. Workbooks may be kept at home. 

  • School-issued musical instruments-- Please return all school-issued instruments.  Click here  for the form that must accompany the instrument.

  • If your child has a rental instrument the vendor will be contacting you with specific instructions on how you can return your instrument. 

    • If you would like to drop the rental off to the building, please contact the rental vendor first. 

    • After contacting the vendor, if you are returning to the rental to the building, use this form.

  • If your child has a Safety Patrol belt, please also return it at this time.
