Winter greetings! The sixth graders finished 2012 by participating in a grade-wide character activity. Students completed a self-assessment to determine which areas of their character were in most need of improvement. At the end of the day, each person made a resolution to improve their character in some way. Speaking of character, the sixth grade students showed their compassion by raising almost $300 for a school in Red Bank, NJ that sustained significant damage due to Hurricane Sandy.
Currently, the sixth grade teachers are excited to be planning the remainder of the school year. Plans for the spring field trip are coming together, so watch for information soon. In addition, there is an interdisciplinary unit in the works that draws upon all subject areas and will incorporate various learning styles. So, whether you are a problem solver, an artist, a writer, or an actor, there will be something fun for you!
In between planning these projects, teachers are collaborating to create activities and share teaching strategies to help our students improve. A major focus in sixth grade is to encourage our students to work together cooperatively, utilizing those 21st century skills that are essential to being a productive member of society.
The Wizard and Knight teachers can’t believe the school year is already half over. The sixth graders have made a great deal of progress and have made the teachers proud.
