We are once again looking forward to another year of making music with the students of James Monroe School.  Historically, the James Monroe Band and String Orchestra have served as a training ground for the award winning music programs at Herbert Hoover Middle School and Edison High School.  IT ALL BEGINS HERE!

The most significant change we face during this 2010-2011 school year is the elimination of all lessons at the 4th grade level.  Lessons are open ONLY to 5th graders on the following instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Violin, Viola, and Cello. 

Lessons for 5th graders in the school are offered at no additional charge to families.  Parents are, however, responsible for obtaining an instrument for their child to use.  District approved vendors for instrument rentals are listed below, but any source can be used.  Rental contracts are available from any music teacher.

Lessons occur once a week, on a rotating basis, as a pull-out from regularly scheduled classes.   Students in the Band and Orchestra are expected to practice at home and will perform together at our annual Spring Concert.  Additional "special event" performances may also be added throughout the year.

Our Instrumental and Strings teachers are each assigned to teach in four (4) schools this year, so parents are strongly encouraged to use email to contact them with any concerns or questions.  Phone calls will not be returned in a timely manner.  We ask for your understanding and patience in this matter.
