Grade 4 News

We are so proud of our Fourth Graders! They have all been working so hard this year and are ready to show how amazing they are when they take the NJASK4 this month.  Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest before the tests and eat a healthy breakfast each day.

In Math, we will be working on Fractions, Probability, Decimals and Measurement throughout the month.  Now, we are seeing how all  of the individual math skills we have been learning are coming together.  Please help your child apply these skills in their everyday life. Ex.: follow a recipe, measure lengths of rooms, or window for curtains, compare prices for items in a store, begin to use percent when calculating savings of things on sale (20% off), follow a tv/movie schedule, estimate time, distance, weight, etc.

In Language Arts we will be finishing our study of Unit 5 and journeying into Unit 6.  We will be reading novels and discussing these in large groups, small groups, or literature circles.  While reading these books, we will be applying the comprehension skills learned throughout the year. We will also be reading and writing poetry and/or short stories. Keep reading at home too.  You may want to start your own family book club with favorite books!

Our trip to the Lenni Lenape Village in Waterloo, NJ was amazing!  The tour guides were so impressed by how knowledgeable our students were about the Lenape culture and how interested they were in learning more.  The trip was a huge success.  We would like to thank all of the chaperones who were able to come on our trip. We appreciated all of your help!

In Social Studies, we will continue to learn about the local and state government along with the economy and people of New Jersey.  Now that our students are experts on the state of New Jersey, during the summer you may want to visit some of the historical, political, and recreational places in our state.

We will be continuing to work on a variety of science topics for the remainder of the year also.
