  • EHS Nationally Recognized Budding Artist

     Freshman Neethu Pottackal

Freshman, Neethu Pottackal’s art entry has been selected as a national winner for the International Fund for Animal Welfare Art Contest. Her interpretation of a fox will be featured in IFAW’s 2013-2014 Animal Action poster which is distributed to over 100,000 classrooms and youth groups in the country. Neethu’s work was selected from more than 1,000 entries from all 50 states.
Neethu chose to do her piece in water color because this medium brings out the fox and makes it clearer for the viewer. Neethu has decided to participate in yearly art competitions in preparation for participation in the DOODLE4GOOGLE competition. She wants to follow Cynthia’s lead and win that one as well. Neethu plays the flute as a member of the EHS Band Wind Ensemble. As such, it is difficult for her to take an art class at EHS but it does not diminish her passion for it. She hopes to take an art class here in the future. EHS joins with Neethu’s family in congratulating her for this very high honor and look forward to more artistic contributions from her in the future.

Cynthia Cheng and Chloe Cruz with Ms. Yee

“The Congressional Art Competition celebrates our young artists around the country, and I encourage all interested students in New Jersey’s 6th Congressional District to participate in this opportunity,” said Congressman Pallone.  “I’m proud to have the winning piece of art from my district displayed in the Capitol each year, and I look forward to seeing and enjoying all of submissions.”

The 6th District’s Congressional Art Competition, “An Artistic Discovery” is part of the nationwide competition that is conducted by Members of the US House of Representatives.  The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982, and since then, over 650,000 high school students nationwide have been involved. The winning piece of art from every congressional district will be displayed for one year in the US Capitol.

Two EHS students from Ms. Yee's AP Art class have placed 2nd -senior Cynthia Cheng and 3rd -junior Chloe Cruz. Both were honored by Congressman Pallone at his annual Spring Awards Ceremony on May 4th. Ms. Yee is extremely proud of her talented and hardworking art students. • June is National Safety Month

    June 2013

The EHS community would like our students to find ways to make our school a safer environment this month.  Bring us your suggestions for improvement. It is important to note that falls are one of the leading causes of unintentional injuries in the United States, accounting for approximately 8.6 million visits to the emergency room. Whether at school or home, you can take steps to prevent falls. Sign-up and download helpful materials to educate others on preventing slips, trips and falls. Materials include a tip sheet, a poster, and a quiz.
