Congratulations to First Grade student Reeti who won a writing contest sponsored by the New Jersey Association for Gifted Children. Reeti wrote an essay about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) and her essay came in FIRST PLACE out of all the First Grade entries in the state. Menlo is proud of you!
Students in Ms. Seidler and Ms. Prete's third grade class interacted with another class from…Alabama! Aside from making new friends, students were challenged to figure out where the other class is located by asking yes or no questions. Everyone on both sides of the computer had a great time. In March, Menlo Park's Student Council sponsored two pretzel sales. While the pretzels were delicious, the proceeds went to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. With the help of staff, families and most importantly, our students, the Student Council was able to make a $300 donation to St. Jude. Thank you Menlo for having such a big heart!
In February, Menlo Park's Student Council organized a bracelet sale to celebrate the 100th Day of School. The proceeds went to purchase 52 new books for our school's library. Thank you to everyone who bought a bracelet! Next time you go to the library, ask Mrs. Bova which books are new so you can check them out! Enjoy the books!
Mrs. Drozd's 2nd Grade class organized a school wide fundraiser to support the Cooley's Anemia Foundation. Alicia Somma, a member of the International Thalassemia Congress, met with the students to explain the disease and how they can help. The students raised over $200! Menlo is so proud of your efforts!
Menlo Park's Newspaper Club is now completely digital. The members, with the guidance of their adviser, Ms. LoCasto, have transformed the newspaper into an interactive blog. Please click the icon on the right or go to the Newspaper page under the "Clubs" tab to see the first ever digital version. Keep up the great work!
Thank you to everyone who uses their Red Card and mentioning Menlo Park Elementary School when shopping at Target. Through Target's Take Charge of Education program, Menlo Park received almost $2,000 which will be used to benefit the students. Thank you for participating in this program and doing all you can to support Menlo!
Attention Parents of students in Grades 3, 4 and 5
On March 31st, the Menlo Park Drama Club took a trip down the Yellow Brick Road. All the boys and girls did a phenomenal job in their roles! Thank you to Mrs. Ruiz and Ms. D'Aronzo for directing such a wonderful performance. Thank you to Mr. Peccarelli for sharing James Monroe's sound system and making sure everything worked that night. Most of all, thank you to all the students and parents who came to practice every week, made costumes, did make-up and supported the Drama Club throughout the year. Click here to view the Drama Club's 2015 performance of The Wizard of Oz. Thank you to one of our parents, Mr. Bhingarde, for recording and sharing the performance!
