  • Mr. Fernandez is Named "Most Inspirational Walker" by the National MS Society

    Gym teacher Michael Fernandez had the honor of cutting the ribbon at this year's Walk MS as the National MS Society's 2012 "Most Inspirational Walker" for the North Brunswick site. Staff members from James Monroe surprised Mr. Fernandez by taking part in this event.Team Michael's Strength raised over $1300.

  • Dine Out Night

    Come out to Fratelli's Pizzeria on May 21st & 22nd and enjoy some of their delicious pizza! A portion of each purchase will go to our school PTA.

  • Grandparents Luncheon

    First graders invited special family members to a luncheon sponsored by the PTA. Families were treated to songs and poetry and tributes written about their grandparents. A wonderful day was had by all. Click the title to see more photos.

    It's official! Spirit is the name of James Monroe's school mascot, the owl. Each student in the school voted using the ActivExpressions.

  • Leave Your Mark on the Community

    On Tuesday, April 17th, parents and students worked side-by-side planting in our school garden, packed over twenty care packages to support our troops, made blankets for children at RWJ Hospital and started a clothing drive.   • Jonathan Sprout Assembly

    Grammy Award winning singer, Jonathan Sprout performed at an assembly for James Monroe students. Rocking to songs about historical heroes, students learned about famous people and their accomplishments.

    The Study Island Contest gets under way starting this Monday, March 19th. Sail the blue ribbon rapids and earn opportunities for class and individual achievement. See attachment for contest guidelines!

  • Youth Art Month Celebration a Success!

    James Monroe celebrated arts education on March 7th. Students performed scenes from the play Toy Story, 4th & 5th grade chorus sang and students' artwork was displayed in a gallery. Invited guests joined Mrs. DeCoite in her art class and Mr. Peccarelli in music class to see first hand how important art curriculm is to our students. See more photos!

  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and...READ!

    James Monroe is an earth friendly school and we LOVE to read! Several activities are planned for Read Across America including a Book Swap, poster contest and earth friendly door decoration. Welcome to James Monroe

James Monroe has retained its unique character as a small neighborhood school welcoming families from many different cultures in the midst of a metropolitan area.  It maintains strong, parental involvement and communication that help focus attention on developing the whole child. This cooperative spirit is supported by parent participation on school committees and PTA sponsorship of a variety of events, activities and programs such as grade level luncheons and school-wide field trips.  
 
While working to provide a rich and challenging educational program, our staff is always concerned with every aspect of a child’s welfare. Our school-wide initiative continues to be reading comprehension while using our new comprehensive Language Arts program.  Problem Solving is the focal point of our Mathematics instruction. Teachers in all grades work daily to make math meaningful by showing its connection to real life. Each classroom is equipped with a Promethean Board and has access to our mobile computer lab.  Another priority was the continued development of an inclusive environment where all children were treated equitably.
 
 James Monroe School is looking toward the future with sincere concern for the well being and learning success of each and every student.
