Art 2012-2013

Due to the addition of Promethean Boards in classrooms, students will now be able to view famous art images and videos about various artists!  Students entering the art program in first grade will start off learning about the primary and secondary colors. Fine motor skills will be practiced during activities such as tracing, cutting, and gluing. Basic art skills like coloring, painting, and collage will be introduced.

In grades two through four, students will build upon basic concepts learned during the previous year. Each lesson will be related to a particular artist, art form, or culture in order for children to learn a bit of art history too! Interdisciplinary lessons will be added throughout the year as well. During grade five, students will focus on modern art techniques and artists. By the end of grade five, your child will have a wide range of art knowledge. In addition to the primary and secondary colors learned in grade one, students will now know complimentary, warm/cool, and analogous colors.

Grading in grades one through four will consist of O=outstanding, S=satisfactory, and N=needs improvement. During fifth grade, your child will receive a letter grade (A+-F). Grades are based on following directions, effort, neatness, and creativity. I look forward to sharing my love of art with your child and expanding his/her art abilities!
