Congratulations to Mrs. Jain, the 2011-2012 Teacher of the Year at Washington School!

Mrs. Jain

Welcome to Washington Elementary

From the Desk of Mrs. Mirrione....

What an exciting year of learning we're having! As I peek into classrooms, I see students tapping away on iPads, enjoying the many fun, educational apps that extend our learning--right from their fingertips!  I see students focused on composing Powerpoint Presentations and doing research on laptops for interesting class projects. I see teachers actively using our new Promethean Boards to add an entirely new interactive dimension to the stories that we read, math concepts that we apply, science topics that we investigate, and social studies units that we experience. I see us all sharing a "journey" with our new Journeys Language Arts program, reading across a variety of genres and writing across a variety of topics. It's fantastic to see learning come alive in so many magical ways!

Adding to that magic are all the fantastic, memorable events and traditions that make us feel like extended family and strengthen our school community. Such occasions include: Fall Family Fun Day, the Pumpkin Patch, Family Bingo Night, Movie Nights, Holiday Parties, the Halloween Parade, Camp Bernie, field trips, book fairs, Washington Reader visits, and so much more! I thank our outstanding PTO, staff, and community members for all their efforts to provide these events for our enjoyment.

While we learn and enjoy special events, our Washington School Family has also taken the time to love and care for others. We've had numerous fundraisers and events for worthy causes including the C.A.R.E. Walk, The Giving Tree, Jump Rope for the Heart, and many denim day fundraisers for research and support organizations. In fact, this is the third year in a row that Washington School has been recognized for raising the most money for C.A.R.E. in all of Edison!

To our children, we make every effort to live up to our motto by “lighting the path for your futures” from the day you arrive here at Washington School, as both students and as caring citizens.  I also know that your futures are so bright! My wish for each and every one of you is to always be curious to learn more about the exciting world around you, embrace new challenges and opportunities to grow, and contribute to our community in meaningful ways. I am confident that you will make us proud as you continue to bloom into extraordinary individuals!

With Affection,

Mrs. Mirrione
