James Monroe Odyssey of the Mind Team is Going to Worlds!

                                     Something fishy

On April 9th, James Monroe students competed  in the Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament in Ewing. Because each placed third in the Regional Competition in Oradell, we were represented by two teams, each of which had to perform in a skit based on specific criteria, as well as collaborate on solving a spontaneous problem. They were each scored by a panel of judges for creativity, style, working as a team, and meeting all the bullet points of their chosen task.
Congratulations to   Georgi Petrov, Mia Cabrera, Aliya Lloyd, Atharva Inamdar, Sohang Sethi, Nayab Sabuwalla, Oluwanifemi Omoniyi  and coaches Ms. DuHamel and Miss Horvath. Special thanks to Miss Speckin,  and Mrs. Cimino who volunteered to spend their day off so that our students could compete without penalty, and to the parents who invested so much time in this endeavor.
For those of you unable to attend Back to School Night, here are the highlights brought to you by 5th grade narrators, Zairys, Krushal, Sanjiv, Madeline, Mareena, Cecilia, Elyse and Samarth.

Welcome to James Monroe

James Monroe commemorates second anniversary.

Once in our new setting, everyone was ready to get back to work! With all the supplies donated and curriculum materials arriving from the publishers and other elementary schools in the district we were ready to get back to what we do best: learning and having fun!

There is power in positive thinking! One of the first projects our students worked on was finding inspirational quotes to paint on the walls in the classrooms. We even included famous words by our namesake, President James Monroe!
